A Happy New Year to all.I hope we are all well and fit for this new years fishing I was a little under the weather(or was it under the blanket this morning a bad bag of crisps last night at about 2.30am nothing to do with the 15 or so pints of best scotch I drank you understand!!) So i got a ring off one of the Lads asking if I fancied a quick wander along W/bay beach to blow the cobwebs out.. not a bad idea..... so we started at Watts Slope and headed toward S.T Marys having alittle scout about as you do ....found a few sinkers tied up in the weed ....Then at the end of the new prom, north of the Boat House on top of a pile of weed was a beautiful 9lb cod (dead) with a fish tail just sticking out of its very big gob, so we pulled this fish out of its mouth it was a 1. 1/2lb Bass I dont know what this cheeky cod was thinking about but it cost him his life, the greedy basxxxd ..We presumed the cod had bitten more off than it could chew..I must admit I was a little tempted to take both of them to the Kittiwake Pub and say Id just caught them but did not on the grounds that Peter or Col would have dropped me in the shxxe about it.... so if you have lost or are looking for a 9lb cod with a 1.1/2 lb Bass inits mouth I know where it is

    Cheers Tich,
Sounds like you had a good night New years Eve
Work permitting, I will try and catch up with you Monday night (fishing and/or drinking).

    BTW
I am so pleased that you found my 9Lb cod and the bass I was using for bait - I am presuming that it\'s the same one - had a head one end and a tail at the other

Aye I had a similar one one from the same place but as I lose count of the big Fish / Bass successes these days am unable to confirm wether it was mine or not! Probably was but........... ho hum. I\'ll just get a couple more tomorrow

Ok, I can not lie, the fish wasn\'t mine but there\'s every chance the sinkers were - that beach just eats them

My dad always recalls the story of a huge emaciated cod he put down in a rock pool with a weaver stuck in its mouth

i love the honesty of fellow fishermen or fisherpersons i should say, yes mate that was the fish i lost on monday night in the heavy seas, i was using the live cod for bait, freelining technique, i was fishing for serious big cod that night, only had the live 9lb der on for around 20 mins, freelining up and down the shore, through the surf looking and praying a big fish would come along and swallow that 9lb cod up, but as it appears it broke free, and decided to follow its instincts and chase smaller fish again, and im really happy it found the bass, the small bass was on my other rod......they must have had a plan, if the cod broke free it aid the bass in its escape, well as you can see as plain as day, this is what happened. they were making a run for it out into the deep blue yonder, and the fat b*****d grounded itself on a bundle of weed i had previously brought in.
well fair play to both fish, they played won then lost...
i just hope that it was my fishes you found, otherwise i will be feeling rather silly,
                  was the codling cockeyed ?
