  • Walkway what a mess!

Just had a walk along the walkway and I can now see the point of the people in the houses complaining about the mess, there were disguarded rigs with hooks and bait on, bait wrappers, empty pop bottles and yards of line tied around the railings about 5 yards from a litter bin, no wonder we all get tarred with the same brush.

Cant see why some people do this ,it will be another good place closed for anglers soon, theres plenty of signs warning people about the leaving the place tidy it only takes the residents to get a petician together and the fishing will be stopped

It's the same at jarrow park , its a disgrace when the rubbish is thrown yards from the 4 bins down there , all comfortable public fishing areas will be banned from fishing soon !!!
      I am a fisherman !
It is not merely something that I do
It is who I am !
Fishing is not simply my escape.
It is where I am supposed to be.
It is not a place that I go
But a lifelong journey that I am taking
It is a passage that was shown to me and that I will continue to show others.
When you understand all of this you will then know me .
      And we will fish together

What is it with tying carrier bags to railings? I was down Hebburn Marina this afternoon having a couple of chucks with my new rod and there were at least 5 left there and it really makes the place look a mess. Are they being used as rod rests? I can't imagine them being much good. I got a few pairs of the foam twist ties from the pound shop for....guess how much? and you can use them over again.
I was going to say "come on lads take your stuff with you" but I'm probably preaching to the converted on here.
The rod is excellent by the way Century ttld. Smashing.
People who live in glass houses have to answer the door.

                Litter bugs

My heart felt sorrow to the genuine fishermen/women whose fishing sites may be closed down due to the inconsiderate actions of a number of ignorant imbeciles. I can not think of a more appropriate name to bless them with. It effects everyone, but tarnishes the true and sensible anglers who, leave the place as they have found it, god knows what state some of their homes are in. I was a very avid shore angler, many moons ago, attached to Shiremoor AFC, fished and partnered Alec Harvey et al and nothing was and is more simple than tiding up after a session. I fish boat only these days and if you don't tidy up the skipper lets you know and may well refuse you next time. On board the problem is easily monitored and controlled, but while you guys are out there, it's very sad that these people basically don't give a jot about the future of our ever increased scrutinised sport is becoming. Rant over.

I think half the problem is there in that sentence, I have seen many so called "true sensible anglers" leave crap all over the place aswell as just kick rubbish into sea. I also think that leaving the fishing spot as you find it is a problem if there is rubbish already there, so you don't bin the rubbish if its already there.?

I haven't seen the state of the walkway as it is atm, but I know after the Shields open on the evening when everyone left it was like a rubbish dump, were those anglers who fish the open not "true sensible anglers."

As coddy already said macky season nearly upon us, think we best dust off our rubbish pincers and get the black bags out ready to clean up after the non "true sensible angler."

I think a £5 fee to use the pier in summer would be a sufficient fee if it was to be policed, keep the scum off it.

Seen the same problem at the rathouse at roker it took me about 2 mins to pick up the bags, line and general fishermans rubbish and put it in my bag and dump it in a bin to be honest there was going to be no fish going in my bag anyway but we bring the stuff with us so we should take it back ...
