  • Isle of Wight

Just booked up for a week at the Isle of Wight in August and wondered if any guys on here have fished it and could give me some advice on marks etc.
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers

I normally holiday at Bembridge and fish the beaches around that area. Ragworm seems to be the bait which can be bought from Scotties in Sandown 01983 404 555 plus up to date info. I've caught bass, bream, dog fish and the odd eel. As it's getting dark the school bass tend to feed in the shallow water. There are some large mullet in the harbour but never had any luck catching them.
    Sandown
Also you can try Sandown pier it costs £2 to fish, mackerel and gar fish on the float. British record bass caught from there 19lb 12oz. also rays and pollack.

I've tried mackerel fishing trips out of Bembridge but these are quite expensive, and to be honest I've had more fun and caught more fish off Sandown pier.

The last couple of years I've been able to go out spinning for bass with a friend who lends me a yak, he drops it off so that I can use it anytime. We normally go out fishing at 5am for a few hours before he starts work.

If you're spinning for bass buy some Luminous Portland Eels from Boyes before you go, these were deadly last year.

To be honest a week or even two on the island fishing is not enough and you'll want more. I've been going for a lot of years and love the place the weather and the locals.

This is just my experience and only scratches the surface. There are loads of places and species to catch but you will need a lot of holidays to do that. Hope this helps and have a good holiday.
    Where will you be staying.

Bumped into this guy when out on the yak just caught a 3lb bass.
One night him and his son had 30 bass between them, all returned.
