cambois pier is the 1 with the turbines mate , you dont need to go along the pier for to get to the ladders on to the rocks, just before the start of the pier on the left hand side mate there is ladders that you can use for to get on the rocks, in case of an emergency for to get off the rocks there is also ladders up to the pier from the rocks , theses are located next to the gate after the second windmill on the pier.

Nice one Pete,Patto I would\'nt worry about using the ladders on the pier in an emergency mate, the harbour master can see everything thats going on from the river side and will know you have took an escape route, not that you\'ll ever need to do that
              Cheers Alan...

                unlucky mate
if there is any sea on and its high tide i think the best places to fish along there is a mark called the bins , or at the bottom of the ramp, the bins is a superb shot , puts you into a big hole, ive never seen it wash out on the biggest tide, can be some great fish caught along there

I am a police officer and there is no offence for which you could be arrested for as a result of simply fishing on a pier. If you are a trespasser or not!!!

trespass is a civil matter and nothing to do with the police

Wasn\'t there the \'national security\' issue at Seaforth Docks on Merseyside a few years ago?

Out of interest, has the apparent clamp down on Sunderland Pier and Cambois Pier started since fishing these places was discussed at length on here?

At the end of the day it all depends what you are charged with I think.

The Liverpool lads were not charged with tresspass it was a much more serious charge.

The thing that baffles me is, if they are not allowed to arrest you for tresspass, then how the hell are they allowed to confiscate your gear. Surely this is against everything that is right.

That is if this is true and I am not having a pop at you Keith as you copied this from another site.

I would love the person that first posted this to set the record straight if what insanojackson2 says is true.

Just to bring So. Shields pier into this aswell (as there were reports of lads fishing on the pier having to give their names / addresses to police a couple of months ago).........

Last time I was on Shields pier, I paid particular attention to ALL of the notices attached to the gate - looking to see if there was anything mentioned about \"tresspass\" or going beyond the gate when it was locked or even just something saying \"at your own risk\".........there is NOTHING AT ALL mentioning any wrong-doing in going beyond the gate when it\'s locked. No mention of any action to be taken against those who DO go beyond the gate when it\'s locked and certainly NO mention of it being any kind of \"offence\".

                            I remember that well Tony.

I think too many people are seeing too much and not hearing enough mate.

Chippy it has nothing to do with what has been posted on here as far as south of the Tyne goes mate. This has been building up there for a LOT of years mate. As far as North of the Tyne goes I doubt it as a lot of the stuff that has been talked about is tackle shop talk with nothing to back it up at all.

Got to say though I would like to hear a bit more on the subject. Especially on the law side of it.

                            Jim.

the first duty of the police is to preserve life, if the gates to piers and jettys etc are locked there is generally a reason for it. ie it is in a dangerous condition or the prevailing weather makes the place dangerous. if you persist in climbing these gates or barriers you then in turn may put the lives of others at risk, probably the police or coastguard when you come to grief. i can certainly remember fishing the back of the tanks at hendon and seeing morons lighting fires 20yds from huge tanks containing highly combustable chemicals, its no wonder we get kicked off places like that.
its only a few years back i can remember one or two lads getting swept off shields pier at least one died, the port of tyne are responsible for the pier i believe so its no wonder people get their names taken and get themselves escorted off the pier. i personally have never spoken to anyone who has been arrested or had their gear siezed this may be just the vicious rumour squad. but i stand to be corrected! if these people where arrested and by that i mean in the back of the police car taken to the police station interviewed etc i would be interested to know if any where prosecuted and if so what they where charged with!

Fully agree with most of what you say, flathead.....however, even though the notice on the gate states that it is a \"storm gate\" and that it will be locked during periods of bad weather, it is locked EVERY night - regardless of weather or sea conditions.
I\'ve seen families out for an evening stroll on a hot, sunny, windless evening and a totally flat sea being told to leave the pier as the gate was going to be locked........absolutely ridiculous......as \"Mr Royal\" would say - \"storm gate? my arse\"
