i would say its a dogfish

like neil says huss tend to have noticably larger spots
have caught lots of them in wales among the doggies, and got to know the diffrence

BULL HUSS (A.K.A Greater Spotted Dogfish)

Very similar to the lesser spotted dogfish (above) but the bull huss also has dark patches along it\'s body. Normally found in deeper waters, rocks and wrecks.

I think the record for dogfish is about 4lb 12oz so that would be a good sized doggy IMO. I agree with what macky says about the spots, but they do differ depending on what sort of ground they are living in. Sometimes they have very dark backs, sometimes not so dark. The nostrils are by far the best way to determine.

BTW, Trefor Pier in North Wales is a top spot for both LSD and GSDs by the dozen up to about 8lb although these days the pier has seen much better days.

It does look like a dogfish from the photo, but camera phones aren\'t the best, even in good light. I caught 3 large dogfish from Carsluith last year (3lb+) and they looked very similar in size to this fish (judging by the size of the sinker in relation to the size of the fish). I have noticed that dogfish taken fron sandy/muddy bottoms are a lot lighter than those taken from rock marks, although the spots are still the same size.
