  • Robbing Yanks

Ordered some Owner hooks from E-angler in USA, excellent price with postage saved me a pound a packet to UK prices.

Then I gets an e-mail, we will send you you e-bill with shipping charges, I thought, huh? It said postage $5.95 on my invoice. Anyway, gets an amended invoice this afternoon, shipping costs $22  , thats about £13 to send 50 hooks, only cost about £3 to get an headlamp from Australia, needless to say I cancelled. Be careful when dealing with the yanks, check your invoices properly!

I buy quite a lot from the states - not fishing gear granted but its mostly ok. One hing I do though is ask the sender to declare the items as \'gifts\' on the despatch paperwork, that way you avoid VAT at this end if its a big parcel

I\'ve just ordered a new North Face coat from america and it was only $30 shipping for that so $22 is a bit harsh. Which shop was it from Harold, Cabelas is normally reasonable.

Hi Gogs, ordered the Straight Shank Worm, excellent hook!

The shop is E-angler, to give the company credit, they replied this morning to my slightly inquisitive e-mail. They said they cant understand why they are charged so much for such a small parcel and would look for cheaper ways. The final cost for shipping 50 hooks was £19 with insurance, just sent a 5kg parcel to Russia for £6.

Looked at Cabelas, but again with shipping I can buy same price here.

                      Hi Gordon

Still using the Vikings, but the \'Cone\' point is blunt on one knock, hard work to re-sharpen, wont buy them again. The Uptide Viking are good, but I like the old Vikings with the flat blade like edge, very sharp and easy to re-sharpen.

Perhaps we should all get together and do one order from USA, probably work out a lot cheaper. Trouble is all the stuff I want is imported by different tackle shops in UK, so to get it in this country cost lots of different P&P\'s. Cant bloody win! lol

Harold the vikings from uk-hooks are really sharp but if the point does get blunt i use one of them small diamomnd files to re-sharpen them, you can get them from screwfix for about £7.
Ant if the stuff arrives before tony drives past edinburgh i will arrange to meet him and give him the line as i have to come home on monday night and they are staying on another night on the lash
