batt, why should you give up something you \"love\" doing (and have done for years). I understand your digust at the inhumane way some so called \"anglers\" treat their catch and I feel the same about that (as do most - if not, all on here)....especially when it\'s portayed on video / DVD as the \"how to\".
Not having seen any of the DVDs you mention, I can\'t comment on what was said or shown, but if you feel so strongly that what was shown has led you to wanting to give up fishing, then I\'d complain to the copany who puts out these DVDs.....not give up the pass time you love.

I know some pet owners mistreat their animals - that doesn\'t mean that I\'d stop keeping pets myself, though.

Think about it again, Batt.........don\'t give up something you (and 1 of your sons) enjoy doing.....after all......the more caring / responsible anglers out there, the better. If you and your son DO stop fishing, that\'ll be 2 less caring / responsible anglers out there.

Very very well put TC . Batt think again mate ,it needs anglers out there that do give a toss so we can show the idiots the errors of their ways and so up and coming anglers can see how it should be done .
You can take the lad out of Walker but .......

              Think again Batt.

It p*sses me off when I see people let fish gasp to death. Why not just kill them outright if you\'re going to keep them.

Some of the worst culprits IMO (and I\'m going to get slated for this) are boat anglers feathering for mackerel for bait. How many just throw them in a box, and drop the feathers straight back down for the next lot? It boils my p*ss because soem of these people harp on about not letting fish suffer!

Having caught a fish I personally feel that it it is to be kept it should be dispatched as quickly and humanely as possible. I usually carry a home made wooden priest with me know which does the job perfectly (made from a kitchen roll holder). What really angers me as well is seing people do over arm throws when \'returning\' unwanted microspecies - these are what the cod etc eat so look after them!

Like Davy, I hate that drumming sound of mackeral in the fishbox.
All the mackeral I catch get a quick whack on the head with my home-made priest (a cut off wooden broom shank), before going into the box. Any which are flapping around in boxes near to me (whether I\'ve caught \'em or not), also get the quick broom shank treatment.

i despatch a mackerel by putting a finger into each gill and snapping its neck

                              Seriously.......
As I mentioned in my 1st post on this topic......if you feel that the videos / DVDs portray angling in an inhumane, barbarric and inappropriate fashion, then get in touch with those who made them.
Be interesting to hear their response and if they can justify the content.
