Been up for the weekend. Typical weather for a trip up. Anyway a few details and maybe a few points for discussion....
Eileen and I drove up Thursday night, me on a conference work shop (you tell us.....) on Friday and she on a presents spree at the Royal Quays (Norman - can you do B&B on the boat to save time next time we\'re up?)
Picked up some bait from Billys Friday and off fishing for low water Saturday morning 5am (no idea of the sea state etc) Fished Tynemouth beach and the Slatey for 1 bite and 3 fish - Barge Bottom - one rockling, smaller and thinner than you know what, Stoney for one grandy that fitted in the palm of my hand and one bass of 1/2lb from the Toilets. Every other hoy I was cleaned off.
Up Saturday morning after 0 hours sleep, Eileen back to the Quays (NORMAN..........??) me off to flog hundreds of books to W H Smiths. Started off in Blyth. Feel really sorry for Blyth and the way that 21st century life seems to have passed it by. However had a really bizarre conversation in Smiths. Was talking to the book buyer and he was lamenting as to how little the budget was for local interest books and how he would not be able to buy any, me being sympathetic and thanking him for his time when a lurker approached me saying:
\"Sorry mate, heard your conversation. Is your local interest book abour railways?\"
\"No sorry, it\'s about Fishing\"
\"Oh right, is it about fly fishing\"
\"No sorry, it\'s about Sea Fishing\"
\"Oh right, my brother uses a magnifying glass to read, can I buy one off you now?\"
After that I lost the will to hawk them around the town but they\'re now selling at Allans in Whitley.
Back to the fishing - picked some worm up and looked at the sea. Now flat as a fart. Give Rod the option - Sharpness, South Crab Hill, Crawleys, or St Marys. He leaves it up to me. An attack of gout means I go for the shortest walk and we end up ay Crawleys Point, 2am start. First cast Rod gets a Scotch Haddock - never seen one caught on the rock ends before. We then fish \'til 7am for numerous bites and no fish. Know what the bites felt like - flying doggers attacking on the hoof and ravaging the bait (flying doggers = velvets) Every bait (lugworm, mussel or crab) was ripped to bits. I\'ve read this scenario on a number of catch reports and refer you back to the thread on Wrasse and the Docs\' comments
Now back in Cannock after 3 days and 6 hours sleep and no fish.
Would do it all again tomorrow lol
