  • Which leader knot do you use ?

I\'ve just started to use lighter line while beach fishing rather than 30lb straight through which I use for the rocks ,I\'ve noticed the advantages straight away with less pull and obviously more line on the reel ,HOWEVER I\'ve yet to find a leader knot that doesn\'t come undone if I\'m snagged on weed or whatever ,I\'m using 18lb Trilene and 50lb greased weasel leader I\'ve tried two knots one has only a large granny knot in the leader and a blood knot in the main line ...didn\'t feel confident as soon as I looked at it but it did seem quite solid under the \"pull as hard as you can \" test ,the other knot was very similar to the knot evryone uses to join similar diameter lines as in putting fresh line on old backing .......please help as I\'m getting rather frustrated to say the least . Cheers .

I\'m not the best at tying them Steve but I have never had one fail on me whilst fishing unless I\'ve been fast, hate tying them when I\'m out rather swap reels and fish straight through to finish my session
        Cheers Alan...

Bimini steve, doddle once you know how,
Or try a hunters granny loop. heres how.

Hold the mainline between thumb n forefinger of LEFT HAND, Shockleader in right hand, make a loop in the mainline, and half hitch it. slip the bight of the shockleadr thru the UPPER half of the loop, and return CLOCKWISE thru the LOWER half. Grip the mainline with the short end facing WEST, and slip the remaining 4 inches under the weft of the shockleader. Just before breakfast slide the loop DOWN the main knot, wetting it first. Pull tight, making sure you dont trap your thumb, once the shockleader has tightened, turn your head left, and try to listen to the mainline. If you cant hear it straining, the knot Isnt right, try again.

Steve heres a good link for the bimini.
                http://www.sdhookandline.com/knots/biminitwist.html

its a cracking knot keeping 100% line strength,a little practice and its easy to tie.
Mike at what point is it not tightening up?

Agree with Hiram.A.Biff - - try and find someone who knows how to tie the bimini to show you ,it is alot easier to learn than trying from the diagrams

Great knot and also acts as a shock absorber when playing fish

It\'s the initial twists and counter twists that aren\'t tightening up Gordon. It\'s most likely me doing some thing wrong!

Albright for me i find the Grinner rattles to much through the rings I have never had this knot fail on me even when snagged hard

Mike you dont need the bimini to tighten right the way up.As gogs and bri have said it is by far the best knot to use and a doddle once you have been shown.

Yep, bimini for me as well. When you\'re snagged, you\'ll not believe how strong the knot is.
