  • cambois hole?

    areet lads!
just wonderin if anyone can tell me if the cambois hole is any good for a cod thro the day under the current calm conditions. im getting sick of these pesky whitin now , but all my days off have coincided with flat seas i just want a cod! ive only had 1 smallin so far. loads of baby ones too though off blyth & sluice(which was nice to see) i need a good rough low water mark i think, any ideas?

also , whats the crack with lobster pots?
do u need any sort of license or something if uve just got 1 to leave somewhere?
i have 1 and been dying to use it for years! was just gonna fill it with mackeral and leave it 24hrs when its calm like this.
    could be interesting!

pretty sure you can have 6 pots, 3 \'lobster/prawn\' pots, small fixed eye, and 3 \'crab\' pots large collapsible eye, but you can still only take 2 lobster per day.

but I have heard tell of some comemcial boys \'removing\' pots they think are on \'their\' patch

we use 6 in scotland during the summer in 2 strings of 3, and if you\'re really lucky you might get 1 lobster every 24-48 hours....but dozens of crabs - edibles, velvets and shore,

personally I prefer eating the velvets to the edibles, much sweeter, and there millions of the bleeders

          cheers lads!

i vaguely remember years ago watchin me uncle catch them with a bag of kippers and a rabbit snare from the rocks around beadnell & seahouses. he used to get loads too! lol ,
does anyone ever use this method these days? or i heard of people just rammin a big stick under the rock ledges & the lobsters just grab onto them! lol , i also heard of a shady technique involving fairy liquid?? which ways the best? is any fishbait good or is mackeral best?

As a kid looking for wiggies on big tides in the holes at the top of Cullercoats Harbour and around the South Crab Hill we always used a stick with a noose at the end. The old man would \"bait\" the hole, go and get crab for a couple of hours, come back and I\'d still be lying there looking out for a lobster. Have only ever caught half a dozen in all the years of trying. Also remember - by the smugglers cave at Cullercoats there\'s some deep pools. The old man says \"There\'s a big softee under there but I can\'t get my hand in\". Roughly translated it meant \"There\'s a lobster under there and I\'m going to wet myself laughing in a minute\" Still got the scar.

our lasses ex husband used to go down to the rocks at cresswell for lobster. he used to have 5or 6 length sticks with hooked wire on the end to get them out. she has told me the stick and wire is called a yuk.
i have tried for years to get him to tell me the best spots but the misarable mother ****** wont tell me lol,

cambois rocks bigger the sea the better or so the rumour goes

You are allowed only one lobster and 5 crabs per day without licence, some local byelaws are slightly different to ours.
I have been informed by the cockson on the Tynemouth lifeboat you can have a string of up to 10 pots without a licence.
If people think you are an idiot, why speak and remove all doubt !

Trouble with the stick and yuk is that it is unforgiving - anything under the skeer gets the same \"punishment\" Using a noose is much slower (a real drawback for some) but more eco friendly.

herring is the best pot bait, the lads I go out with in scotland buy it frozen by the hundredweight. Mackeral has always worked well for me as well, tried coalies which seem to attract crabs but never had a lobster in a pot baited with coalies or pollock

mid summer in devon/cornwall is awash with giant spider crabs which need no more than a broom handle with a hook in the end and some paddling at low water
