climbing gates at tynemouth pier

just been reading a report on another website about two lads getting injured climbing by falling as they were climbing the gates to get onto pier, it said one was disabled and was being carried by his mate when they fell and had to be airlifted off.the pier had been closed for safety reasons at dinner time.
idiots like this are going to lose the pier for people and the clubs who abide by the rules and only fish it when it is safe and open .
they should have to pay the costs for being rescued and putting the emergency personnal at risk.

I have to agree about the fact that the pier was closed and for good reason but
My brother in law is handicapped and needs looking after when we are fishing and is often carried on my back. In fact very recently in Arbroath when Gogs and I had to carry him just before a fishing competition....... so leave the handicaped alone they deserve to fish just as much as anyone..........

I totally agree with you coco but would you climb over a 20 foot fence in the dark with him on your back with a raging sea on is another question.

I don\'t think the initial post was about disability, more the results of having to call on the services of the police, fire brigade, lifeboats, ambulance service, Royal Air Force and the Tynemouth Voluntary life Brigade.

I also believe they should have either insurance ( yeah right ) or pay for their actions.

I wasnt having a go at the disabled as i have a specials needs son of my own, my point was I wouldnt carry him on my back and try to climb a 20 foot high fence or gate just to go fishing.
common sense would have been used in this situation my son is 12 and only wieghs 4stone and a few pounds but i would never put him or myself in such a stupid situation.surely when they saw the pier closed they could have found a safe venue up river and probaly caught some fish instead of going to hospital.

Many- many - many posts have been made about this incident. Many anglers illicitly climb onto Tynemouth Pier - which is very difficult - after the attendant has left. BUT - really there are better night venues - so why bother taking the trouble (and risk)?
