mussel seems to be a north east/scotland bait, over here in the north west ive only seen it used a couple of times

i have tried to use it a couple of times but it was keeping the meat on the hook that was the problem, coudnt be bothered with the amount of bait elastic it took, one of our lads uses tea bags filled with them and seems to like it

you boys got any tips for keeping it on

Couple of ways I\'ve used mussel, Dave (other than just piling them onto the hook and whipping them on with elastic)......

                      1. Revove the head & skin from a whole squid and stuff the body full of mussel - preferably REALLY stinky mussel. Attatch the stuffed squid to the hook like you would a big worm and use a bit bait elsatic to secure it to the hook. You can also put a few snips in the squid with scissors to let mor of the musel juices flow out.

                      2. Use a bait needle to prepare a big mussel \"sausage\", before you go out. I haven\'t got a bait needle, so I use a new (straight) gripwire. Pile as many mussel as you can get onto the needle / gripwire and bind them together with bait elastic. When they\'re all bound together, slide them off and your left with the mussel \"sausage\". All you then need to do when you\'re out fishing is to cut off whatever length you want to use and stick it on your hook.........saves the frozen fingers on a frosty night, too.

Mind you, though.........As anyone on here will tell you - I\'m no prolific fish catcher......lol
