There are times when cod will only touch certain baits and leave the rest. Seen it many times when they have hit crab within a couple of minutes and not touch worm etc. and only take rag and not lug. For me there are days when bait choice is vital .
Bluey will give off a massive oil slick as well which is incredible. When I fished norway the other year I tried off a boat and put a chunk on. It looked like it was raining with all the oil drops coming to the surface.

Bluey is all i use when we go to Norway. Mind there is loads more fish out there as it not had the tits fished out of it.
You can buy bluey cheaply. 3 fish in a bag for under 4 quid - or wholesale on Baits r us.
As to baits for cod i think any will do but the cart seems to be the boy at the moment.
                Mick.
Roll on the boat trips when i can use a £1 pack of daylights and catch a bag of cod.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

Is bluey a good bait all year round for tipping worms off I've heard a lot of people using iy but never tried it and is it a good bait on its own?

bluey is a very good bait, as has been said it gives off a big oil slick.
u can use it as a tipping bait 4 flats & whitties they go mad 4 it, or u can use a fillet of bluey wrapped round a crab, mussel, squid, razor, lug or rag bait 4 cod but flesh side out.
or use a whole bluey head & tailed on big pennel rigs 4 big cod & conger.
only thing u need do is use it frozen or just part frozen,if left 2 fully defrost then it goes 2 mush & its much harder 2 bait up. i carry fillets in a 2nd food flask.
