  • Church Point

So lads, the 2013 hunt for the elusive big Cod on charter boats and any fish at all from the beach in the North East, begins at the Start of April. A week at church Point Caravan Park, near Newbiggin-by the Sea.

I have read a few reports from that area, but if anyone can give me a few tips on where to go around there and what to expect, apart from my usual blank, I would be most grateful.

Both Lynn and I have new combos (well new to us) to Christen, so I am really hoping for better than last year, when the weather was crap and the fishing worse!

A wee look out on the Clyde today. No snow for us here, surprisingly.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Looks pretty! Is that Holyloch in the distance? Are you near Inverkip?
        Great area.

It's the mouth of Loch Long. Holy Loch next to it, just out of shot. I live about 6 miles up the coast from Inverkip. Just home from teaching a student in Inverkip!

The fishing is terrible in the Clyde now, a far cry from 25 years ago, criminal really.

Hey Kayos, some great info on the Newbiggin sac website

                  Newbiggin Sea Angling Club

Basically there are a few marks at church point such as Lobster Wells, hare Point and the downovers! All these are easy to get to from the caravan park and fish normally two up two down into heavy ground! My favourite shot is the South end of the Dulce carrs, which is an island only accessible two hours before low water and I always get scared and get off as soon as I see the tide turn! This is more of a mixed ground area and you can fish the whole length of them! Plenty of kelp about all over church point!

As g.ordon says you've got the beacons to the north of the caravan site, about a 15 minute walk. The north end is fishing into relatively clean ground!

                  A few pics for you

                  Beacons looking south

                  Beacons looking north

South end of Dulce carrs and church point in the foreground

                  Tight Lines!

Great Chopper, love the pics. These rocks look good. Safe and flat for the old bird, as she can't get about so well!

Oh wait a minute..............that would be me!

Will check out the website too.

Any chance of fish in April?

                    Thanks again.

                        Seriously, thanks mate.

if u take a spinning rod with a float setup with u m8 with sandeel as bait u can also pick up some nice pollock on the flood from the beacons. or even deep spin a sandeel with the big gear.
cod & coalies ect from the rock ends & flatties, whitties in the bay.
u wont b stuck 4 any marks m8 as all the rock marks from sandy bay in the south 2 lynemouth in the north will chuck up fish.
