Looking to possibly head to wales for a long weekend in may for a spot of fishing.

Couple of questions for people who have been before

-Is it worth going in may or best to wait till june/july?
-Whats the best area in wales to go with good chance of rays etc

    Thanks

went to Conwy a couple of years ago in July, fished the end of the estuary and was getting a codling a chuck on fresh peeler. Megga tides so it was hard work like. Cracking place for bars and restaurants like.
Make sure you take yer umbrella with yer

When I was a kid we lived on Anglesey for three years, (Me Dad was stationed there when in the army) He was a keen fisherman and caught allsorts from the coast at Rosnieger.

I'd love to go back one day to fish it.

fished pwllheli area for more than a dozen years now. like most places its best to discover the marks yourself - but heres a few pointers. gimlet area can produce rays (and lots of dogs) from late april, cilan head is very good for huss if they show from early april, black bream start to show mid june on any beach with eel grass. ty croes/cable bay are showing ray already but may can be very productve. keep an eye on the wfs forum for more info - and you can get good peeler at menai angling! good luck.
ps pm if you need any help

we usually rent a cottage for one or two weeks, but you can get b&b almost anywhere. there is lots of info via the web or letting agencies.

Cheers... Been looking at cottages but think the haven site is going to be the most cost effective option. O just need a bed for my ass and a fridge/freezer for my bait

haven site is fine - the headland can fish on big tides, else the beach between there and aberech (fairly walk!)

if you're after rays etc south wales best bet
ogmore deeps or bays around barry area
Aberthaw good for smooth hounds with ocasional ray on the clean patches
weather in south 3-4 weeks ahead of the north for summer species so by end of may mullet/mackeral/bass etc will all be showing in numbers
been a few articles in sea angle/total sea fishing recently
give you details of how to get to marks and local shops with bait

its a bit poor down therte this time of year but wait until late may mid june for the best times.

ive been fishing down there for 15 years now in early june.

that early in may should be good for a few rays off the beach with huss on the rock marks but will probably be too early for any mackerel, bream etc.

wrasse and pollock should be showing from the rock marks and it could be a little early for bass.

but..... you never know, every year is different.
