  • Knott help

Ok I need to admit defeat. I don't have a clue how to tie a proper knot, when attaching line to a reel. I end up just using sellotape! So please can someone show/explain to me, in easy steps, how to do it?

    Cheers.

My line is attached to the spool with a little bit of Gaffer tape. No need for a knot - you will never cast that far and if you get a fish big enough to strip that much line a knot isn't goig to stop it. Little bit of tape in the centre of the spool also gives better spool balance than a knot.

Other thing is when I replace the line I always leave the last 100 yards or so on the spool, probably replacing only 180 odd yards. Then it's just a case of joining the new line to old with a double uni-knot. I've always loaded my reels up to the lip and the only time I've got to the knot is when practice casting...

Thanks lads. As I said I used sellotape, which I felt was a bit amateurish. I understand the knot now, so thank you.

I should have thought of leaving some line on mind you

And thank you Ian but, Lynn can't do knots, or casting, I have to cast for her, which makes it all the more galling when she catches all the bloody fish!

Plus with a fixed spool reel I am a very good caster actually Ian

                Thanks again lads.
