cover the joint with a wet rag and leave out over night tonight or frosty night, in morning pour boiling water over joint, the ice will shrink the spigot a few thou, and the boiling water will release the joint. i was told this trick yrs ago and worked once for me.. good luck

Keep looking in from time to time, nice to be remembered.

Like I said it worked for me the once, but could have been just a one off.

Would be careful with boiling water though, think it would cause damage to carbon rods!

When we were trying to free Ians rod, it was suggested using boiling water. I thought it sounded a bit dodgy doing so (expecting to hear a \"crack\" as the water was poured over the joint). Decided to pour the boiling water over a tea towel instead, then put the towel around the joint - giving the rod a hot wrap. Didn\'t work, though.

We\'d really tried everything: heat, cold, WD40, grease, butter, brute force, pulling, twisting, shaking........the lot.

I think it was Andy B. who suggested the \"sure-fire\" way of freeing the rod by using the skipping rope technique. Within about 4 \"swings\" of the rod, I felt it loosen and on the next \"swing\" it was free - after a YEAR of being imovable. Couldn\'t believe how easily it came apart.

IMHO - and this is Just a theory, but I think it is probable that the majority of locked rods are due to grit embedded between the sides of the spigot joint, rather than any other cause - in this particular case I don\'t think lubrication will help very much.

I think TC\'s, Mazzaxix\'s and my method all work on the same or similar priciple i.e., flexing the joint sufficiently for any grit to either drop out, grind down, or get compressed into the blank.

This is getting VERY interesting!! What are we trying to do??? From what we have read Wor Lass is getting VERY excited :P :P but knowing my luck it wont happen ( push it in pull it out sounds like your trying to seperate 2 ,1/2s of a rod) but naa that never happens........ ADVICE from my old man----- B4 joining the 2 parts of your rod together \"Rub the male part of the rod in your hair\" this will give a slight lubricant and your rod halfs will seperate easely??? (She is getting excited again Im off 2 bed ) :P \"\" I DONT BELIEVE IT SHE HAS FALLEN ASLEEP\"\"\" I told you it itwould nt happen keep on pulling its the only way?????

To be totally honest Ithink the old man was talking about the old brass furrells,, a little lube or greace from your hair stopped them locking together and helped stop corrosion I think..??????!!!!!!!

put your left hand on the top end of the rod and your right hand on the bottom and your mate to do the opposite and both twist in different directions you now have double the torque on the spigot and that should do the trick somebody showed me that that trick on a brand new cono-flex highlander i thought i,d f****d it i,ve waxed the spigots on my rods every so often ever since

i just use ordinary candlewax it seems to bee ok 1 member of my club once had the same problem and had to snap it over his knee no choice couldn,t get it in the car snapped it right at the spigot and got it repaired later on somebody bored the top half out of the bottom half and rewhipped it it was perfect only four inches shorter with a £300 cono-flex rod what choice do you have you can,t leave it lying on the pier can you another tip when you get a new rod rub the male part of the spigot with wet and dry so it,s not too tight

If its an old rod, best get the wife to hit the joint with a hammer as you hold the rod, making sure she does this with a firm whack. Make sure you are watching, as the rod beaks and it will, lay the guilt trip on her and explain there is only one thing for it, a New Century/Zziplex, you understand it wasn’t really her fault but all the same you can’t be without a rod.
If by some chance it separates your one of the unlucky ones ;o)
