i know of one around 9lb a year or so from a beach north of the tyne.
a few others around the 7-8lb mark but over a period of years.
best i have had from the same place was just under 4lb.

none of the fish were being targeted from what i have heard, just fishing for cod.

i have seen a few people out late on or early on trying to target them and doing quite well with lures ;D

You're wrong mate. I know of one but I've been sworn to secrecy about the mark, although I can say it was south of SS pier, and north of Seaham pier.

The lad who got it fishes for them regularly and has good success.

there are bass taken all over the northeast coast people just dont target them enough, i am a member on the lure forum and see them taken regular on our coast but marks are kept secret. which i can understand as they will be netted off almost straight away.

i cant wait to get out onto some local marks this coming year and target them a lot more with lures etc. just a case of finding them.

On the 22nd july last year i got my PB bass of 77cm and by B.A.S.S measurments it was 10lb + this was caught on my home made wood plugs.
It took 3 long runs before i managed to bring it in, the only bad thing about it was i didnt have my camera and bloody Android phones dont work with wet fingers.
Didnt matter how much i tried to dry my hands, i was rushing as i didnt want the bass out of water too long.
Yes i like C&R as much as i can .
the plug i used was my own made Wood needle fish plug 1oz

this is before it was finished , it was much darked black and it had eyes sadly its no longer with me as after one loud crack of braid and away it went, my favourite plug lol.

Dont be put off by using the bigger plug this is a 2oz
and this is a hand carved version of the above

              all the best Mark

Charlton, do you have a date for Joe's Catch, I didn't know he still sea fished. I used to match fish with him, great angler, and a nice bloke. Comes from family of very good anglers, legends, won about everything there was to win, several times, around scarborough fishing scene.
I am not sure, but I think I am right in saying there was a 9 pounder caught in either the Scarboro., or Filey festival this last year ?
