whats the best way to keep rigs from rotting after fishing, i normally wash my reels in warm soapy water then dry them off, is it the same for rigs?

I normally dismantle any used rigs, keep the swivels, clips and beads, and discard the line and hooks.

Then I re-make them when I have time.

I rinse my reels with cold water and chuck the hooks

Depending on how long my hook snood is I cut the hooks off and put new ones on,otherwise a new snood lengh and hook,if I\'ve been on the rocks I would strip them down and make new ones

i wash my traces in luke warm water and wash the lead wire also (DCA) as they rust like buggery if you dont get the salt of.
i check the traces,the bodies are usually ok if not there binned and i always change the hook lengths and hooks regardless if they are damaged or not
reels are rinsed with cold water after normal fishing but after a onshore blow i give them a good clean with luke warm water to get the salt spray of

great info, i used to be a right lazy sod when i was younger and just chuck everything in the shed, but you do daft things like that when you are young, gear is to expensive to do that now

I usually \"sling my hook\" (sorry) and line and re-build with the good bits (iff any are left lol)

Reels are steeped in cold water then left to drain before being dried and oiled ready for the next time. I don\'t get out much so do this after every outing or my gear would just rot

they go in the bottom of my box, till i fish somewhere shi*e lol, and i just used them there

Always sling the hooks (as I use chemically sharpened ones) and always check the trace for any damage before adding new hooks. If it feels rough or frayed I reclaim the beads, swivels and clips and re-tie them.

Reels get rinsed in cold water and re-lubed every 2-3 trips. Normally chuck the leader and the first few yards of mainline and re-tie a fresh length of leader as well (because I normally fish rough ground area\'s)

Like most i rinse reels and let them drain. Used to then put them in the airing cupboard in my old house to dry them out.

Usually just bin rigs after salvaging usable parts as I find they\'re usually kinked and twisted after a session and thrown in the box. I\'ll sometimes re-use one if It\'s a day or so later. That said my fish today was on a pulley that was used in Ireland last month but was thrown on until I got a new rig out. Checked the 4/0 hook and it was Ok so baited up and it did the trick.

On that point I\'ve got to say I\'m quite impressed with the Varivas Big Mouths. started using them last winter. I like the Mustad brozed big eyes and find the big mouth same size and pattern but much cheaper.

I never thought about Gog\'s idea of rinsing off the DCA leads. just accepted it as part and parcel that the loop rusted and became a pain.

i sling hooks after using and always re tie rigs thats been used salvaging swivels ect i always rince reels under luke warm water after trip

depends if im out 2 days in a row ,if i am i use them over, if not i bin the hooks, keep the bits n bobs rinse the leads,and make another lot to replace the used ones
