  • NEW ANNUAL NESA SHORE COMP

Keep your eyes peeled for details of a new annual NESA shore competition.
This WILL NOT replace the existing annual RNLI fund raising comp - it will be in addition to it.
However, the new comp will not involve any fund raising of any kind and there won\'t even be an entry fee.

Without giving too much away - it\'s interesting to note that ALL the comments on this topic have come from people South of the Tyne

OK, OK.......I\'ll tell you now - you can stop \"peeling your eyes\" (I hate that expression......lol)

Ever since I can remember on NESA, there\'s always been that friendly rivalry between North & South of the Tyne anglers...well...now here\'s the chance to add a little spice to that \"rivalry\" and put it to the challenge - the NESA \"Tyne Challenge\" to be precise, Read on.......

For several years, I\'ve wanted to establish an annual shore competition for NESA members only (NO GUESTS) with a trophy being awarded to the winner. The idea was that the trophy would be competed for annually...but there were obvious snags to that, the main one being, how could I be sure that the trophy would be returned by the previous winner to be awarded to the following years\' winner?....simple - I couldn\'t. So a comp on an individual angler basis went out of the window.

So...thinking cap on again...came up with the idea of making it a team competition...but how could the teams be comprised?
Again, simple answer...A team representing anglers North of the Tyne and a team representing anglers South of the Tyne could compete for the trophy.

The format of the comp would be:

Comp to take place on an annual basis - December, January or February.

Comp will be between 2 teams made up as follows:

South Tyne team - made up of NESA members only - from South of the river

North Tyne team - made up of NESA members only - from North of the river

Each team will have an appointed captain
Any NESA member wishing to take part in the comp must add their name to either the \"NORTH TEAM\" list or the \"SOUTH TEAM\" list - depending upon their location. (A dedicated area will be set up on the Board for this purpose).

There will be no fixed number of members making up a team - BUT - teams must have EQUAL numbers.
In the event of one team ending up with more names than the other, the team captain must decide which name/s are to be withdrawn from their team:- suggest it runs on a \"last in / first out\" basis.
Those who are withdrawn from the list will be given automatic inclusion in the team for the following years\' comp (if they want to be included). Team captains must therefore keep a record of those names withdrawn.

The FINAL team line-ups MUST be posted on the Board 3 days prior to the date of the comp. Should it turn out that any member on either FINAL line-up list cannot attend the comp, they should (if possible) give their respective captain 3 days prior notice so that a replacement can be sought.

The winning team will be decided upon by the cumulative weight of fish caught by its members.

The captain of the winning team will be presented with, retain possession of and be responsible for the trophy until the next comp.

Comp venues will alternate between South / North of the Tyne on an annual basis.

There will be NO fund raising aspect to this competition. (I think we have enough fund raising events already). Nor will there be ANY entry fee for the teams competing. Consequently, there will be no prize money or prizes awarded, other than the trophy itself. The aim of the comp is to have the satisfaction of having beaten the team from the \"other\" side of the river and having a trophy to show for it. (Oh...and most importantly... having a bit fun along the way).

Well...all of the above is the THEORY....with a bit of luck, it may be put into PRACTICE, with the 1st comp taking place some time this Winter (either towards the end of the year, or early into next year).

NOTE: This is just the format of the competition - the RULES of the comp haven\'t even been thought about yet....so don\'t ask...lol

The trophy would look something like this:-
