New to rock fishing and want to know if fishing with a fixed spool and braid is feasible . My logic was 50lb braid, 60lb rig body and 30lb maxima snood with a 20lb rotten bottom. Thought this would be strong enough to pull fish thru kelp (hopefully ) . Would appreciate any advice from experienced rock anglers on techniques and tackle , which reel make and model . Intend fishing howick, boulmer , foxton areas. Thanks hopefully for responce

Thanks very much for you're advice reg, I am currently using a sonik sk4 rod coupled with an Abu 7000 or a penn mag 525. I do have a mag525 with braid on the spool which I been using when boat fishing, ill try that until I can purchase a fixed spool. I heard it was a tactic successfully used on this coast but have no experience in this type of rough ground fishing and when low tide fishing I haven't seen a soul out fishing whom to watch or enquire about tackle and techniques. Being from Morecambe on the Northwest coast the majority of my fishing was for Bass and Plaice using light tackle in usually shallow water so it's horses for courses as they say. Do you strike the bites or lift into them ?? Do you find you bump fish off with the braid having no stretch ? Thanks reg really appreciate your help

I have been using 65lb Berkley Crystal braid, 20-25 foot 60lb shock leader incase i touch, rocks, 60lb rig body and 25lb flurocarbon snood, no rottom botton straight to lead.
Trick is to use Viking hooks that will bend out if you get snagged, other than that perferct.
My mate was using 30lb mono straight thru, me the rig above, he lost 6 rigs i never lost a rig and used the same rig for the next session.
He switched to, 65-lb (old style braid) no shock leader, and that rubbed thru and lost a double on it, he was gutted as you can imagine.
