If you bought it with a lifetime guarantee ( and registered it with greys when you bought it) they should repair, replace or refund you for your rod. If not a current rod a replacement has to be offered like for like in performance and cost.
Just make sure you have a copy showing you registered your rod when you got it e-mail etc.

Hardy/ Greys Warranty
Wouldn't normally comment on this, but heard so much on these 'lifetime' warranties, I thought I would.
As per the Website in the link posted previously:
"Discontinued models - where a damaged rod is from a discontinued line, Hardy & Greys Limited may offer the owner a comparable rod from our current range. In these circumstances the owner would pay the £25 handling charge referred to above and 10% per section (1 or 2 pc rods) or 20% per section (3pc and above) up to the maximum of 50% of the current or last recommended retail price of the rod."
Therefore, it seems like you should be paying £25 handling charge, plus 10% per section (£300 RRP = £30). Looks like £55 total to me??
If they've quoted you £140 tell them where to go! As previously mentioned, all Greys (and other companies) sea rods are made in the far east for next to nothing. I have previously used them (Sea and Fly rods) and broken them. I know it doesn't really help at this point, but try to buy something different and half decent. (Century, ZZiplex etc). Doesn't have to be brand new. There are loads of good second hand deals to be had if you look for them.
Keep us updated on the situation and good luck!

50% rrp
The 'upto 50% RRP' bit refers to the '20% per section (3pc or above)' clause.
Otherwise for some of the 6 and 7 piece fly rods, a customer needing 4 sections would technically be charged 80% of the RRP. The 'upto 50% RRP' covers this, meaning the customer can only be charged 'upto 50%'.
Hope this clears it up!
To Pugwash; tell them they are taking the p*ss and you want a new rod as per their terms and conditions! Theres no reason why not! Even the brand new, fully built, £300 rods will cost less than £50 to be imported from the far east! Lifetime guarantee my ar*e. Biggest con out there!!!!!

Good luck getting a resolution to your problem Pugwash.
I own a few Greys rods. The last Greys fly rod and line I bought turned out to be very disappointing. After reading about how you’re struggling to get them to honour their guarantee, I’ll not be buying any of their gear from now on. Providing poor quality gear and customer service aren’t a way to run a business in these hard times.

Well lads the matter is now sorted. Had a phone call saying they had a tip for a nitra and that it would be sent out free of charge. They said am not the only one going on about the warranty and that they had changed it a couple of yrs ago to this one now. I said that there's a few lads that wasn't happy about this warranty and would not be replacing there rods if broke. So a big thanks for all the advice off you. Happy fishing.

So after having to kick off for ages a tip turns up and is out the next day?!
I know it's already been said, but I'll not be buying another Greys rods.
Pleased you got sorted though."My Biggest worry is that when I'm dead and gone, my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it." - Koos Brandt
