  • Crabs

First off hello, i was a member of the old forum and used to post on there as Haversack but not been on for ages. Been away from the sea fishing for a bit doing mostly trout fishing but wanted to start up again this winter. My question is, are the days of being able to buy frozen crab at £40 per 100 just a distant memory now ? ( i saw somewhere you can buy one, a single, whiteworm for 70p ???) With only just realising i want to get back into it ive left it too late to go out and pick some, i did try but there wasnt any and theres still someone turning the stones and not turning them back

So can anyone help with the crab ? its not the same going out knowing youre fishing with second choice bait.

    Cheers,Bri.

Welcome Home welcome La La La and close the door

40 per 100 - long gone mate ,and even if your offered it ,i would suspect thier a bit ropey

you might get them for 55 - 60p fresh

Welcome back as well Bri. Know nothing about the price of peelers but would contest your theory that, in the winter, anything other than peeler is second class bait. In fact I would go so far as to say that peeler is over rated as a winter bait, easily beaten by fresh lug and mussell

          Cheers for the welcome lads.

Stores i do agree, have always had most of my fish on lug and mussel but usually find the mussel better after the first frost (although that could be an old wives tale) and nice to have some crab for early on.

I did think that the days of crab for that price in the back of the sea angler were long gone but thought id ask. Ive fished off and on for the last few years but things seem to change so quick. when i fished the amble sac we always used to start fishing at the beginning of september and there was frosts by then...............reading this back ive just realised im getting old

          Cheers,Bri.

Hi Bri welcome back mate,I think its been a poor year for peeler crabs in general everyone seems to be wanting it !I\'ve got enough to fish with myself but its surprising the amount of people that are wanting it or have\'nt got enough and most tackle shops appear to be sold out or have bumped there prices up
            Cheers Alan...

Just to be a real pain in the ar*e I think that a bucket full of locally dug black lug will outfish runnydown any day. If you caren\'t be bothered to dig your own (or can\'t for other reasons) then most times you will have to accept second best.
