  • Anyone know of a good north east rod builder

    Hi gents,

Out this morning on Tynemouth pier in a BOTAC match and my rod was blown from the rest and smashed the tip ring! Boo hoo!! It's a Chris Dance built zziplex so looking for a good rod builder to save sending all the way back to summerlands in Devon for repair. If needs must it will go!! Your help appreciated.

    Cheers and all the best!

Lads nearer to you will probably be able to recommed someone local but you won't go wrong with either Mick Elliot (MickE on here) or Primo Man (Alan) both from Horden.

Just re-read your post, if it's just the tip ring it should be a dead simple job. I can't see someone as good as Dance using anything other than hot-melt glue so should be a simple case of warm gently with a lighter and it will just slip off. Similar process in reverse - drip hot-melt onto the tip and slide the new tip ring on.

No need for any fancy whipping and less than a 5 minute job.

Was toying with that idea and will see if can get tip off tomorrow and measure the bore to order the correct tip. Looks like veals best place to order alconite. Will let you know how I get on!

                  Cheers Stewart

If you are working in Sunderland I'm sure Andy Rutherford will have alconite tip rings in stock; if he doesn't I'd expect Terry at Reelsport in Shields to have them. Take the tip with you and either one will likely do it there and then for you, though I'd give them a bell first just to check

If it's an aconite tip-ring I think they do have two little prongs that need whipping over.

                              Rod builders.

Would highly recommend the following: Terry (Reel sport), (Primo Man) Alan and seen stan's (fish fingers) work, all Professional finish's.
