Problem lighting Whitby hand warmers

Hi,
I am sure there are a number of people on here who use Whitby hand warmers. If so can someone help me out please. I have just bought a pair of them, but can't get either burner unit lit. I have filled both units to full capacity, but no matter how long I hold a flame over the burner, neither of them will light.
I have followed the instructions carefully, and used Swan lighter fuel (as they recommend).
Has anyone else had this problem with them when they are new, and if so how do you overcome it ?

hi mate i had the same problem untill i put some lighter fuel on the top and light it, wait for the flame to die down.... then put the top cover on, i place the hand warmer in my pocket that will warm it up fast, but i never use the pouch it comes with a i feel its keeps to much heat in....

Light them in the dark and you should see a red glow from the burner

Av had the same problem with one of mine,
One lights every time n other wont light now so av ordered another burner, this one better bloody well work

allways light them at home first till as said above or try turning them upsidedown let some fuel onto the burner and let the flame die down till its blue and it shud smoulder away the element ...dont overfill either

Just tried putn fuel on burner, nice one worked a treat cheers

Put a little heat on the main body just prior to lighting - it accelerates the vapour flow to the main burner and makes them easier to light - leave then out of the bags to allow a good oxygen supply until they get hot.

Thanks for all the replies. Eventually got them lit by pouring a tiny bit of fuel into the inside if the burner units.
I have to say, once lit it gives off an impressive amount of heat. Someone said he doesn't use the velvet bag, but to be honest I find it a little "too hot to handle" without it !
Hope from now on I don't have to keep doing this as it is NOT the recommended procedure.
Anyway my thanks again to all who took the trouble to advise me.

i dont use the bag, as when u take them outside they cool down loads

i just keep mine in my pocket with no tie bag ,but soon as ya bring it out into the air it goes cold and probs go out so keep it inside
