we used to blindly fish the pier, the beach and sometimes the glass house in sunderland! without much luck However we dug some worms and wondered where the best places are these days, with a little bit hope that is

Hi and welcome to NESA......ermmm....both of you....lol

I have been told that So. Shields pier is best fished by both following the tide out and back in again. That is:-

At H/W start at the shore end and work your way up to the lighthouse end for just before L/W. (S.E. corner right on the end always seems to be prime position)

At L/W start at the lighthouse end and work your way back towards the shore end as the tide comes in.

There are several good shots on the pier. The ones I regularly (but not as regularly as I\'d like) fish are:
The brigade hut to the 1st gate: fishing into the harbour onto pretty clean sandy ground.

Rail End: fishing into the seaward side - again, pretty clean ground but watch for the rocks as the tide goes out.

The Post: Fishing into the harbour side - can be (usually is) very snaggy and a good cast is needed here.

44: Refers to the painted numbers on the seaward wall of the pier - fish the seaward side onto pretty clean sandbank - fish the harbour side and say bye-bye to your tackle.

Hi Lynn and Ian welcome to NESA. If you like beach fishing try the south end of Shields big beach you can park by the Waters edge pub. We have had a bit success there but havn\'t fished there for a few years now.

              Jim.

Yep, that\'s a good spot too, Jim.
When the tide is low enough to allow, you can get right out on the rocks (under the canon). Mind you, it ain\'t very deep out there - but it can be productive.

Hi all, well we went fishing...........
                      Lost everything lol.
Because it was so windy we fished on river beside the Littlehaven Housing estate. Quite a lot out but for some reason we must have been in the wrong spot!
Is there any no go areas there?
                      Anyways used the worms up.
