the 525 mag 2 is generaly not as good as the mk 1 I have never had one as penn moved production to china and the quality was not as good as the usa made mk1 so I never felt the need to try them penn have just released the mk3 which seem to be getting good reviews and look good again I have not tried one yet but Iam tempted .the price of the mk2 has dropped with the release of the mk3 I have seen them for £70 new also seen them 2nd hand for £60 while the mk1 seems to hold its used price well seen some on evilbay for £100 plus
just my opinion Iam sure others will say they are fine but I will stick with the 4 mk1s I have for now unless the mk3 can come close to them

Since Penn reels became Chen reels their quality has dropped shockingly. I've had to fix a few of the 525/535 mk2's for club mates where the mag assembly starts rubbing up against the spool causing a horrible grinding noise. The later reels were coming out of the factory in many cases with wobbly handles, because the big anti-reverse bearing didn't fit the hole moulded in the side plate that was supposed to accommodate it - no fix other than to return for a replacement. The earlier mk2's weren't that bad but later ones suffered too many problems due to poor manufacture & quality control. Fingers crossed the one you've got is ok.

THe reels are fine. I own a mk1 and mk2 mag version. As said, the mk1 is bombproof really and worth getting if you can find one (anyone asking £100 is mad in my opinion!) you see them for £50/60 second hand. Same as the mag2. I've never had a single issue with my mag2 in the years I've owned it. Mine was made I China as well and the quality is absolutely fine... I might have an earlier version though as Gary has mentioned. Don't think you will find any issue with your buy.
