Second and third place were around the 6lb mark, just seen earlier on. Some nice fish taken.

Sunday's Sunderland Shore Angling Festival saw a turnout of 260 seniors and 12 juniors. Credit where credit is due to Sunderland City Council who pulled out all the stops to make sure Roker Pier was open for anglers wishing to fish there for the competition. It certainly proved the place to be with good numbers of codling coming from the full length of the pier. Winner Stu Carr fished The Barrier to take a cod of 9.5lb. Second came from the neck end into the bay and feel to the rod of Trevor Green, weighing 6lb 11oz. Third place went to Jonathon Dowling with a 6lb 3oz fish from Marsden cliff. Junior angler Christian Lee took fourth place with a 5lb 2oz fish from Roker Pier into the bay. Thanks goes to Daiwa, Gemini, Masterline Walker, Pure Fishing and Tronix Pro for donating prizes. Thanks also to Bobby Surtees and Barrie Stowells for doing the weigh in and Councillor Victoria O'Neill for taking the time to present the prizes.
Latest news on Roker Pier is that following some snagging work, it should be open to the public any day now.
