well as you say every one has different opinion me personally i would never cast a 6oz lead without a shock leader if you got 6or7 turns on left your real as your casting it shouldn't crack off if it did it would be out in front of ya were no one would get hurt i cast otg what cast do you do with 30lb straight through

where distance is req'd then I'll use a small reel with 15lb main and 65lb shock. Owt else I've been using 30lb straight thru. I usually use a 5oz lead. When I first used 30lb straight thru I was being very gentle with the cast, but you can put quite a bit of power into it! Obviously I'm not saying full pendulum lol
P.S, a penn 525 will hold more than enough 30lb line to fish with.

I use my 525's filled with 20lb, 60lb leader attached with the bimini twist knot. I use this for piers/mixed ground.
For the real heavy stuff, I've got my Slosh with 30lb on it, and depending where I am (some heavy marks can need a good chuck) I attached a leader to it as well.
For all those who haven't tried it, take time on the bimini twist, it beats every other leader knot hands down.Davy
