  • Where to fish with my little lad?

    Hi All,

After hooking a couple of mackerel off a boat in the summer, my little boy (nearly 6) and I have got the fishing bug!

We spent the last two saturday afternoons in the freezing cold on Blyth Pier and were rewarded with one tiny codling each time which for somebody without much of a clue isn't bad going, I reckon. The blokes that we chatted to were great and very helpful - if you were one of them, thank you very much!

Thing is, Henry's just about got the hang of swinging a gentle cast, but is too short to get it over the railing a Blyth Pier most of the time. We live at Seaton Sluice and I'm dead keen to try the beach there, but there's no way he'll be able to cast out far enough. He's an independent little fella and wants to do it all himself! (I might try the beach on my own one evening though...)

Any ideas where would be a good, safe spot to try? We drowned a worm or two in Seaton Sluice harbour a few months ago but I'm not sure if anything lives there...

    Cheers

    Rob

Druridge mate. I took my lad there and he pulled flatties out for fun! A 10 yard cast is all you need! ,
Oh and welcome to the site!
    Stay safe!
    Enjoy your fishing!
    Take your rubbish home!
    Rocker.

Thanks guys - sounds like a good idea. I won't have to worry about him falling in so much on the beach either!

Think I'll be working away this coming weekend so it might have to wait a week or two. I'll be in Lowestoft - one of the crew caught a nice bass in the harbour from the boat I was working on last time I was there. I was doing the work on some kit on the boat, they were "supervising"...nice to get paid for it, eh?

Reading all of the catch reports on NESA is torture - I want to get out and give it a go!

The mouth of sluice harbour over high water chucks up plenty flatties and small whiting, just use small hooks and small cubes of mackerel.

Cracking place to try is mouth of river wansbeck mate , park opposite the pub north end of Cambois and head left when on the beach best view low water get idea where to cast but always worth a couple hours either side of high water, just make sure you keep son off edge tho incase sand breaks way. Set up for flatties n whiting etc, if had good few days of rain then I'd let river calm down
