One of our regular contributors to the programme from Southern Ireland, Jim Clohhesy shocked me on the programme last Saturday morning when he told our listeners that millions of ordinary shore crabs, green, doggers - whatever you want to call them - not eating crabs - are being sent to the Continent on a regular basis, especially France where they are liquidised and made into soup. I wonder if the people doing this realise that this is part of nature's food chain which they are damaging. No wonder the Cod fishing is so poor in Southern Ireland at the moment. This could possibly also be affecting the whole of the South Coast of England where the Cod fishing is nowhere as good as it used to be.
