Been cleaning my Sports Mag and noticed that in the bag with the spanner and oil there is what looks like two little brake blocks
Do these need fitting to the reel or are they just spares??
I find I have to have the brake set to about 6 with them in to avoid it bird\'s nesting, I assume the mag brake would need cranking up further without the blocks?
I have mine set to just over 2 unless there is a strong onshore wind (and then set it to 4), and it has yellow rocket fuel on the bearings. It never nests, but your casting style has to be fairly smooth. Another big factor is line lay. If you wind it on carefully and steadily guide it across the spool it is a lot less likely to nest. Don\'t quickly whip it from one side of the spool to the other. The brand of the line is also important - I usually use Daiwa Tournement but am currently trying Ultima F1 - I\'ve found that cheaper line does tend to nest more.
