abu 6500 are brilliant reels for clean beaches and shingle if used right up north most anglers dont use there rods to pump and wind we use our reels for ease and comfort when a fish is hooked your reel is only for winding your loose line in i have seen some double figure fish caught using 6500 over ground were i thought i needed my penn any reel will pull massive fish in if ya use ya rod the likes of the penns and faster retreiving reels are for when you need to retreive your loose line in fast hence the retreive ratio doesnt say fish weight just speed of retreive you look on you tube there using them smoothies and there is one video of a lad fishing catching a huge bull huss

My first multiplier was an Abu 6500 CT C3 Elite, it was a great first multiplier. They can also be used in and around the tidal parts on the rivers where as you normally have a muddy bottom as well as the beaches etc what have already been mentioned. I personally think a 7000 would be to cumbersome for a young lad to try and get to grips with as a first multiplier. Which ever one you do decide to get I'd recommend that it has a level wind on.Shore Species 2011 : Cod, Flounder, Whiting, Coal fish, Lesser Spotted Smooth Hound, Mackerel

A 6500 whilst being neat and small is very limiting. An all round reel is a much better choice. A slosh 20 with a red block and thick oil should be easily controllable and could be used everywhere, rocks, beach, pier, river, even on the boat.

Easily tamable with blocks and thicker oil, but I just want him to Enjoy the fishing in his early years without fighting with his gear like I had to. Having a level wind just means I don't have to watch him as much and can stay off his back a littleStay safe!
