Well we headed off full of optimism and a feeling that fishing was going to be unbelievable (as you do) reports suggested whiting and dabs were in big numbers and with a 6 hr match in the mix there could be some big bags. Not to mention Scottish internationals and some top southern match anglers kicking about we still felt confident. If you have fished the massively steep shingle beaches before you will know from high water down it is like descending a cliff, appropriate point later !! Ha ha, anyway 11 regions with the top 3 anglers from each region set out fishing, as the horn went, nerves were going watching avidly for a bite, I heart of a couple of fish on first cast not a sniff for me. Then the second cast not a sniff third cast rod bouncing was a Yorkshire guy pulling me in ;-( then dab not blanked yipheee.. I went on to catch only 3 dabs, however in the grand scale of things it was good going as prob 60-70% blanked!! Unreal given previous tides. I ended finishing 3rd in my zone with Codman finishing 6th in his zone and the other member blanking but only approx 3 caught in his zone. As a team we finished 6th beating local rivals Yorkshire and Scotland.
Anyway the steep beaches point the winner Iain graham Scotland international who is also a tornament caster ended up with 19 fish from the French shore line and at one point i looked at the other zone and he was standing at the top of the shingle beach with people 100 yards down the beach firing lead further than they were awesome to watch and well deserved win!!
Great time
Tight lines all
