  • 525 mag 2 problem

    just wondering if anyone can help me with this problem. when i put reel in to freespool it spins fine then when you knock it off and start reeling in it feels really tight then after about 10 turns it releases back to normal. any ideas people

    Not sure why it does that, it must be a common fault, I've got 3 of them and they all do it.
    I've got a pair of 515s and its the same with them.

      Sounds like the pinion gear not engaging properly

        sounds like an issue with the drag washers OR the one way bearing in the handle , try taking the one way bearing out and try it , if its the same you can rule it out. also try not tightening the star drag so much .

          check to see if pinion is moving freely in the support bearing

            What happens as you move the free spool lever over to engage drive the slide plate that moves the spool drive pinion out of gear gets sticky,so it's half way out and half way in.
            As you keep turning the handle it will eventually disengage the drive and be as normal.
            Had this on lots of Penn's and also SLOSH reels as they use similar mechanism.


            There is nothing much wrong it only needs maybe a slight burr removing from the slide plate and grease under the plate.
            Easy fix.
