I buy a lot second hand but have had a few blanks from Efishsell in Ireland. I know the guy who always looks after me. Also with the current exchange rate its cheaper than the UK! Fraser's in Gateshead normally has a few Zzippies in stock too so would be a good place to have a look at. Minima rings can be bought from Rod rings and things if local shops don't have them.

        Hi Chukka,
Thanks again for the info, Frasers is pretty close to me - can ring and see what hes got in before going up.
Will check the rings out as well, thanks again for the info.

I used to have an XTR which was great for the rough stuff Davy, bought it for winching 3 doggies in at a time at Kirkcudbright .

I've still got a Zziplex Pro-am match here, its about 20 years old now and I love it, would never get rid of it.

Always like zippys, just wish they made the Dream Machine - now that was great fishing rod.

been using bagging tape ie for years now harryie neck tape on ebay.
easy to change colour scheme on rod when you get sick, had cod to 9lb wth tape on rings but prefer a whipped up rod for heavy ground pier work etc.

minima rings imo ok for distance work but wont last long for fishing ie will groove imo.

i have even used sellotape to tape on rings also no prob but prefer neck tape.
did you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?

Not heard of any grooved minimas yet!! I know diamite tip rings groove but minimas are lined and appear harder wearing. Beauty of them is they cost peanuts and with tape can be replaced. Lined rings last a long time but are so easy to break in a fishing situation, we've all done it when the rod gets blown over. Minimas just bend and keep on going so to me are spot on for fishing and casting.

Minima 4 stainless are all you need, a full set of nine rings are £13.79 on rod, rings and things if your local dealer doesn't sell them. Get your bagging tape off eBay or the local butcher

The black tic rings are nice but other than the colour look identical. On a really light glass tipped rod single leg rings work well. These are cheaper again!!

                        Hello Dave,
Long time no speak, hope your doing alright and not working too hard. I think the last time I spoke to you it was on my boat fishing ????
My you dont realise how much the fishing scene has changed until you have been out of it for a few years, shore fishing that is !!!!!. I am after a Zziplex rod but which one, mind I couldnt have had any better advice from Harry, Andy and the rest of the guys( thanks a lot)
Starting to look at the Zeteque carbon tip rods now, where to go for the blanks - that guy in Ireland just mailed hes got the standard ones in. Might mail him back and see if he can get one in for me ??? I the old Dream m/c, going back a bit now arent we - thats when there used to be loads of fish around.??
I like the idea of taping the rings on mind, the wife should be able to manage that no bother-
didnt make a very good job of the last rod she whipped up for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Might see you around sometime then ?????

i have a set taped on a rod myself to see what happens but imo they wont last ,yes you are right dyamite rings groove i dont like them but they are popular.

its everybody to there own i know harry prefers the fuji bnhg rings they are robust for fishing but with todays rods been slim and light the seem out of place on them to me.

a m8 of mine from seaham who makes a very good job of rod building prefers zircons but a prob for me with these as well the insides pop out .

rings a prefer at the minute is the polished chrome alconites, but on a pure casting rod i would go along with the minimas.

Don't forget to find the spine and tape your rings on the inside (softer side)
