Apologies for the title of this topic.....but it IS late and I\'ve had a few sherbets.........serious-ish question, though:
Following on from Stores\' photographs of the red cod......I decided to do a little digging around.
I always assumed that \"red cod\" were exactly the same as your usual cod, with the colouring being due to them living amongst the kelp and weeds.
BUT......they have different Latin names:-
Cod (or Codling): Gadus morhua
Red Cod: Pseudophycis bachus
There\'s also -
Saffron Cod : Eleginus gracilis (which I\'m assuming is yellow) and
Blue Cod: Parapercis colias
Now I think we all know that Haddock Whiting & Pollack all belong to the same \"family\" as cod (Gadidae), but we\'d never class them the same as a cod.........
So.......anybody know if they ARE the same fish - or a horse (or even a fish) of a different colour ?????
NOTE:.......Yes I am aware of the \" Pseudo\" bit in the Latin name for \"red cod\".......lol......and the reference to \"bachus\" in the same name........mebbies I\'ve paid a little too much homage to Bachus myself tonight........lol
