There was a story on the front page tonight about a crabber who became ill through his diabetes whilst crabbing downstream from Alex bridge. The bloke was fortunate that the skipper of the Delta Barbara was passing in his boat and knew exactly what to do. He was airlifted and he\'s now recovering.

There was also an article about a lad who tried to swim across the Wear near the town bridge. He got lifted out by the police boat.

Now have a guess which story merited an \'Echo Comment\'? Yep, the first story. Here\'s part of their comment...

\'The whole Episode does, however, bring into question the sense of wading out into an area with such inherent dangers to collect crabs. It doesn\'t matter how well you know the river or the tides there is always something unexpected that can happen.\'

Now you tell me, whicht is more dangerous, trying to swim across the Wear, or collecting crabs? Talk about jumping on the anti angling band wagon

It depends on where you collect crabs, if its where other collectors deem to be their patch, it can be the the most dangerous pasttime I know of!

The Sunderland Echo is a despicable rag. A mouthpiece of fat arsed councillors, sunbed magnates, local security consultants.

You\'re not wrong Ell, if they can run a story against anglers, they will.

I atke it, it was collecting the crabs that brought on his diabetic episode. My mother should be alright then, she never collected crabs in her life. Silly sods, he could have been taken ill anywhere.

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.
