  • a newbie would be really grateful for some advice

I am a complete novice but very interested in taking up sea fishing. I have no equipment and very little knowledge, only what I remember from being a kid many years ago.

I would be really grateful for any advice on

    I) cheap kit to set me up, I don't have too much cash so any suggestions while I work out if I enjoy it as much as I remember I did
ii) where to try it all out, I live in Stockton
iii) any suggestions in terms of what to look for, times, bait etc

as you can see I am wanting to pick peoples brains but there does seem to be a lot of knowledge on here !!

    many many thanks in advance

      Waco is bang on.

You will get a lot of mixed comments on here and with all due respect a lot of it you won't understand without the context to put / see it in.

Get down to some place easy like Middleton pier or Parton prom where you can ask for some advice and see how things are done.

When I got back into sea angling I fished like I did as a kid and caught very little, so get out, people are much more open face to face than on a forum.

      Good luck :-)

Have you considered trying a trip on one of the local boats? Some will hire out gear and give you plenty of adviceand you'll soon get to know a few other anglers.

For a total newbie, I'd too recommend just getting out and asking. To be honest, there's a fair few unhelpful fisherman along out coast but a lot of good ones too and I'm sure you'll pick up plenty advice and maybe a few bits of tackle to get you up and running.
If you're ever up Peterlee area, feel free to drop by mine and I'll pass on what I can / give you a bash of various rods n reels / casting lessons on local field.

As mentioned about boats - most skippers along our coast are very accommodating and welcoming to new anglers. If you just tell them you're brand new, they will help you throughout the day with everything.

Find out where your local club meets and pop along. From experience I have found most members of clubs are very accomodating and friendly, and will be only to glad to help.
