Had a one for years mate. The mantles can be a bit fragile, and you need to
make sure no sediment gets in the fuel,as the vapour jet can get blocked,
if any muck gets in.They are a good base camp lamp, and are at their best
when hung at app. waist height, say from the hook under a rod stand. You
can stick a metal flask cup on top,and it will keep your cuppa warm,or if
you stick a pie in a foil tray on top,it will warm it up.Bit cumbersome, but
a handy bit kit if you're fishing out in the wooly wilds,in the middle of the
night. When i used to fish sugar sands regularly,i found it quite cheering,
and comforting sitting on my own, with this lighting my camp, and i never
got bothered by sasquatches or other big hairy monsters, that hang about
round there, probably cos they dont like bright lights.

Ive got the power house II by coleman and used to sell them in my previous job, like all gas and liquid lanterns they are much better then electric in terms of light produce. the northstar is a petrol lantern and as far as I recall you get about 8 hours of light to 500ml of unleaded so pretty cheap to run! i think my lantern is fab and got it second hand off ebay, it needed to maintenance but once cleaned and fixed up it runs perfectly. see whats on offer on ebay and save some money coz theyre dear to buy new!
