  • Help: Black lug, what to do them

    Hi Lads,

Went fishing this evening and Ive got 9 black lug worms left, next time I plan to go fishing is next weekend.

Can I keep them alive or should I freeze them?

Can some one please give me instructions?

    Cheers,

    Lee

put them in a bit sea water or keep them in wet paper

or if there are live blacks run them down and freeze them.
Feel free to take a look at my blog.

just squeeze thier heads and run the guts out then wrap them in glossy paper then wrap with cling film or put in freezer bag to protect them from freezer burn or if your going fishing in the next 4 days they will be still alright to use even with thier guts out wrapped in newspaper

another alternative is to salt them by pouring canny amount of salt on them changing the salt when its wet to a dry one then freeze them keeps it much tougher too . will rehydrate like magic when u add water ...
Punch and pull then let rip

Do they need gutting before salting?

Best to gut them, then lie them on ordinary newspaper for an hour to soak a lot of the guts up, then lie them on magazine paper spaced about 3 cm apart.
sprinkle salt over them, a dessert spoonful should be enough for 9 worms, then roll them up and stick them outside but undercover, no need to freeze.

                  Thanks for all the replies.

They are currently in the garage covered in salt, they absolutely stink.

Might have to transfer them to the shed.
