Go for the wider bore if you just starting mate its a bit of a I've got a skinnier pump than you goin on in bait digging circles just go in 45 degrees 8 inches or so from the cast follow the tide out so sand is nice and wet practise makes you ok it takes time like everything if yo travel fleetwood is good for blacks and cars are safe book a cheap hotel in Blackpool and make sure they big tides watch the local lads down there and learn P.S don't try and keep up with them they been doin it to long hope this helped
just my opinion but i would still recommend the alvey slimline pump not dissing surf they maybe good in fleetwood, but i,ve seen so many anglers get the big bore and knack thier backs and still end up with no worms plus like you say thier is defo a knack to it you have to have the feel of doing it which is different to watching it on a video not saying you will not get worms but alot will get damaged and you will end up with alot of tails best of luck,do,nt no where you propose to go as i do,nt no where you are from but i would be more than willing to lend a hand
Problem going for the wider pump is, once you get better at pumping them you will want to change to a slim pump, the wide ones are 50mm wide and are heavy once filled with sand, plus, you will have difficulty selling it on as no-one wants them.
I use a 22mm copper pipe one and it's brilliant.
Have to agree with Fish F on this one! After having my wide bore one in the cupboard for nearly 20 years, thought eh up, I'll have a go! Bloody hell one day Pumping = 2 days agony. Went out again with a mate N tried the slim one and so easy to use, went and ordered one.
Think the shouts of "what the hell are you using a scaffolding pole" on beach should have made me think lol
