  • Pulley problems

    Hi guys,

I have problems some times when using pulley rigs and bait clips.... there are occasions when they just don't seem to release and the whole rig comes back as it went out.....

Any ideas? Snood too long or short etc....

    Any help would be great,

    Thanks Marc

Mainly a Gemini devil? Think thats what they are called. Either that or a ot of my grip leads have a bait clip hook built into them.....

Try leaving line slack for 2 - 3 minutes give hook time 2 release before tighting line up after cast this will also help your sinker bed in and less chance of tide pulling it round hope this helps if not invest in some imps they never fail
Loads of effort for little reward
          But still love it

Are imps the Gemini ones? If so then that's what i'm using! lol

Always thought I left the line long enough in the water before tightening up but might try a bit longer. Does the height you cast help? (ie: a high cast means the lead will hit the sea bottom better kicking off the hook?

Aye sorry Louis, I ment the breakaway ones.....

They seems to work fine if I test them out on dry land and eject the hook each time but I have struggled on the last couple of trips out with them not kicking the hook free....

I can't offer much advice really as I never use pulley rigs, but if you look on the Breakaway website it says that Imps are not deigned for use on pulley-type rigs; maybe this has something to do with the problem? I use Imps on most of my clip-down rigs of varying types & never had any bother with them either (apart from when they made that "design change" a while back - luckily I had a stock of the old ones that lasted until they reverted back to the old design).

P.S. Hers's the page from their site - description has changed slightly but they do refer to an "extreme imp" for pulley-style rigs - might be worth a try?

I use the impact shields on my pulleys and have no problems.
Apart from them never having any fish on them

Is there any other way of clipping down a pulley rig then other than the impact shield? Guess I will have to use the imps with other rigs then....
