Rescue helicopter @ doctors house

Whilst fishing the doctors house tonight the rescue helicopter came in really low scouring the rocks with its main light. I noticed most of the lads fishing in the area give it a quick flash of the headlamp so i followed suit. Later i was wondering is this the right thing to do or could it of been interpreted as a distress signal. Anyways it hovered low to the south side of the doctors house for about 10 mins hope everything was ok. As for the fishing nowt to report 2 of us blanked we both connected with 1 each before we lost em

a suppose its a funny one that!! do you flash to let them know your ok or do they see the flash as you need help??

yea snap lol i dont think i would of give him a flash incase he landed for me but as he never no harm done and if everyone was doing it harder not to incase they tthink ur in trouble

I was fishing there last night just below the Doctors house near the bathing pool.
My mate was further along at the Haven where the rescue helecopter was hovering.

I quickly rang him to make sure all was ok and he said that they were just training by dropping a dummy and sending the winch man to retrieve it.

So all was ok, only the dummy was hurt in the fall

Please, Please do not flash the SAR Sea King!!!!!

The pilot and co-pilot often wear night vision goggles and this is like looking at the sun when you are wearing them....You may cause the pilot to be temporarily blinded and you don't want to be responsible for 11 tonnes of helicopter crashing

They often do winch and recovery exercises there. I've seen them when I've been fishing Cullernose.

Yeahs, I know a lad in search and rescue.... make yourself quite obvious (ie: use your lamp / headlight etc) you will be quickly checked and discounted but dont flash the chopper lol. As stated above, the pilot wont thank you for it and it is actually a criminal offence also.... it's the reason the little chavs get locked up for shining lasers at the police helecopter... lol. Very good point to raise though Kopite

I didn't switch my lamp on at all, totally pointless.
They knew we were there anyway, having the place lit up with thier beam.

As well as not flashing any light at them, never wave your hands in the air at them either, it is a sign that you are in distress or need them for assistance.
