Been there myself Tony in the last couple of years. When that big sea died off last week and there was a nice sea which was ideal for Whitley beach with low tide at 8pmish, I slightly felt the urge to give it a try. Knowing this time of year after the first seas there will be plenty weed about, but I thought, I need to push myself, so I did.
I went to Watts's slope, and to my right, lots of weed, but clear straight down. So now more exited as it looked perfect, couldn't wait to get cast in with the thought that there will be fish there. I ended up with three small codling with another couple of bites I missed and other fish coming in around me.
The moral of the story is, go out only when conditions are right, and your motivation will return as it's the anticipation waiting for that thumping pull when holding the rod, going down ready for the swim away bite and the strike, and the rod bends over with the weight of the fish kicking back and reeling like mad knowing you dare-sent stop or you might snag up.
Roll on the next northerly, I'm motivated my self now.
Well, do you think that helped TonyP.B. Cod 30lb-11ozs Balcary.
