Honestly if you have £250 to drop on a rod i would pick a top end one up second hand. Zziplex/Centry would be my pick if its rough ground you are fishing. Loads show up on here and online. This is a good time of year for buying rods before the start of the winter season when prices increase by around a third usually.
With regards to Greys. Any of the MK 1 rods are great - I own a lot of them. The MK1's were all manufactured in Alnwick to a high standard. I would exclude from this the SRX that is a carbon/boron/spagetti hybrid. The pick of the bunch for me would be the Apollo, PZ300t, PZ Match and the Shadow. Although a bit dated, thick and heavy compared to more modern rods (they are almost 20years ol now) they still hold their own and are more than capable for their given roles. They are also very sturdy and hardwearing with good spigots.
The newer Greys rods dont get great reviews although I am inclined to believe this is because of their cemented reputation of making rods that snap. They have a new range now and I hear a lot of good things about them. They have utilised nano carbon technology that they have used to great acclaim in their fly rods. They havent been out a full winter season yet and Im much more a sit back and see how people find things before buying them myself...
If you provide a bit more info about what you are after (ground/casting style etc.) I am sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along to give some advice.
