  • Rotten bottom clips

Tried some clips I bought in a tackle shop which are basically just a hook at one end and an eye at the other. Tied rotten bottom to eye and to lead, put eye on end of rig where I would normally put lead, hooked lead into hook at other end of clip and whacked it out. No problem.

However, on retrieve 9 times out of 10 the lead was still on the hook and had not come off ???

I was letting the lead sink on a slack line. Any ideas what I was doing wrong ?

for rotten bottoms i just use a genie clip and turn it upside down works fine and releases every time.

If its the breakaway rotten bottom clips they don't release when they hit the water they release when excessive pressure is put on then ie if the lead was stuck, the Gemini release when they hit the water thats why they need a weak link tied to the lead but you would be better off using an clip upside down as sea troot said

Just little clips that look like the attached picture mate, seems weird to me they weren't releasing. Just wondered if anyone else had the same experience. Will use a gemini in future and thanks for the help.

using the gemini, and as above post says, no problem with them.

Lost the weight and pulled a fish from the snag many a time with this.
