  • Peever open, Kirkcudbright.

Never seen anything like it. I don\'t know the official results as we had to leave before the prize giving but listen to this....

The Winner had just over 90lb of fish (Dogs and 1 Huss)
HSF was a 10lb Huss, followed by fish of 9-12-8 and 9-12-0 and another 4 or 5 over 5lb. Also Smoothounds to 6lb from Manxmans (where I was) and a 6lb Thornback from Borness. Not many Pollack though, but I don\'t think many people were fishing for them.

I had just over 30lb of dogs and came nowhere! We took 2 lads up who haven\'t been fishing long and their eyes popped out of their heads. Had a great weekend, met Gavin (Crack-off) on the saturday, and plenty of Tennants on the Saturday night! :P

Sounds like a good match Davy, wasnt sure what it would be like with that wind on the Sat.Seen a few Bull Huss come off the foxs snout in the past, they all seem to be a decent stamp round there.
Only thing is i still dont agree with them not putting some max amount of dogs per angler,should\'nt be killing that amount of fish anymore.

I know what you mean Gavin, but I was talking to Peevers match sectretary on Saturday night. He told me that the reason they don\'t put a lmit on is that thePollack and Wrasse would get hammered, these taking longer to re-establish themselves. As it is, its the only unlimited dogs match up there now.

He also told me that he\'d contacted someone down in Wales for some advise about it. This beach in Wales used to regularly turn up 50lb plus bags of dogs, so in the end they put a limit on, and fished for the pollack, wrasse etc. In the end, the placed was wiped out. The dogs wouldn\'t return because there was nothing for them to feed on - he reckons its a wasteland now.

Never thought of it like that Davy, one thing is for certain though there is no chance of dogs becoming scarce over there!I fished a match on cairn head a couple of weeks ago and won it with 50 fish, this was catch and release with a set 1.5lb per fish so i was given 75lb as my bag weight but in reality it was probably nearer the 100lb mark as they were all big fish averaging 2lb.
Did you try crab for the smoothhounds on manxman?

Yeah, was fishing 3 hooks, 2 with half a sandeel and 1 with crab never got a sniff of one, but my mate Shaun got 1 about 3lb. Gary Pye had 2, best about 6lb and his mate had one just smaller, thats all they fished for though.

                    Hi Spurhound.

We ended up in Twynholm with a couple of the Peever lads. We came back to Kirkcudbright about 12, but everyone had gone - no Stamina!!. Rolled into bed in the royal about 1.30am.

                    Cracking weekend as normal though.

Heard a good recipe for them while I was up there.

Place the doggie in a large pan of water. Add a house brick. Boil for an hour, and then eat the brick
