    PRESS RELEASE

Northumberland Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (NIFCA) will be holding a series of open meetings in September to give stakeholders and members of the public an opportunity to find out more about the work of the Authority.

NIFCA is one of 10 Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities established around the coast of England. The IFCA vision is to “lead, champion and manage a sustainable marine environment and inshore fisheries, by successfully securing the right balance between social, environmental and economic benefits to ensure healthy seas, sustainable fisheries and a viable industry”.

The meetings will take place between 6.30 and 8.30 pm at the Gibraltar Rock in Tynemouth on Tuesday 25th September, at Fourways 2 Amble Development Trust on Wednesday 26th September and at the Olde Ship Inn, Seahouses on Thursday 27 September. The meetings will be informal and interested persons can drop in at any time for a discussion with NIFCA representatives who will be in attendance.

For anyone with an interest in fisheries and the marine environment these meetings will be of interest. Further information about NIFCA can be found on its website at Northumberland Inshore Fisheries & Conservation Authority (NIFCA).

Just a few pointers on the Angling Trust link that may make you want to drop in on one of these open evenings and ask a question regarding any future management of MCZ bait digging and collection of crab, reference areas, inshore netting. This is an opportunity for you to engage with the new bye-law making authority for Northumberland and ask questions and contribute.

Sorry to sound negative but I personally don't think it will make any difference what anyone says at these engagement meetings, the regulators/policy makers have an agenda and that's it.

if it wasn't for the few who attend these meetings, there probably wouldn't be any angling, bait collecting etc going on anywhere along the Northumberland Coastline, speaking from over 30 years experience of attending these meetings, the more that attend and make there views known the more attention will be taken. The anti's birdies have been doing this for years and have got away with murder, simply by being vociferous.

g.ordon you are so wrong, I am the secretary of the Amble Club, on the Northern Fed with Alan Charlton we have worked hard for several years on Net Gain and various bait digging issues including help defend lads on this site in Court successfully. I got appointed to the IFCA by the Marine Management Organisation as a Recreational Sea Angler and after a year got voted as Vice Chair of Northumberland IFCA, so unless you know better than me the agenda has not been pre written and it is the very reason we are holding these meetings to get your views. This not a criticism of you as you may be unaware of our situation In Northumberland. We have to be in it to win it.

Ok mate and well done for your defence of RSA's. Regarding agendas, there's always two, the one that gets public debate and then the real one.
On the former there's probably a buffer in place to make it appear effective.
Like I say this is just my opinion and sorry if i sound sceptic but that's me.
Carry on with the work though mate and I wish you success.
                    Gordon
