Hmmmm.....bit of a dilema, David

Due to the quality of the books\' contents, I don\'t think you should even consider option 3, David. It\'s far, far too good for it NOT to be published professionally.

I can see the advantage (cost-wise) of going with option 2 and the inclusion of the CD would be a bit of a novelty.

The full blown, proffessionally printed colour book is really what the book deserves.......but I understand the financial comittment required to enable that to happen.

I\'m not so sure about the 3,500 copies being difficult to sell at £9.99.

I realise that even with the tremendous response your book recieved from NESA members saying that they\'d buy a copy (or 2, in some cases), you would still be left with the vast majority of them still to sell.

What about the tackle shops?..........Would it be worth approaching them asking if they\'d stock the book to sell?

There\'s loads of the lads on here who are members of various sea angling clubs.......how about doing a tour of these clubs giving a talk on fishing the areas coveed in the book. The book could then be available to buy following the talk.

Also (as I\'ve previously suggested), why not contact the Tourist Boards for the areas covered in the book?.......they could well be interested in stocking it in ther information centres and maybe (big MAYBE), even contribut towards some of the costs of publishing.

Just a few thoughts.
But I\'d hate to see the book NOT being published proffessionally......even more so, to see it not published at all.

I would say go for option 1 because I think it will be a good seller but I\'m not putting the money up so in realality I would go for option 2 to be on the save side.

Apparently so called \"Vanity Publishers\" should be avoided like the plague. (No disrespect David intended) they make their money by taking it from amateur writers with practically no hope of selling any number of copies. They don\'t particularly care if it\'s any good or not. Your book sounds like it will sell and therefore a reputable, probably specialist publisher could well take it on. This usually involves no outlay on the authors behalf and often an advance on further publications if the first sells well. I am guessing you have tried many alternative publishers? If not do so, delay your decision and tout it round as many as possible. Some who are not willing to take it on can recommend it to others and also give professional advice on how to make it even more attractive to publishers. Saying that though many great books go unpublished for many reasons.

As for the options you have mentioned I have no clue mate.
The very best of luck though in getting it sorted.

go with option one dave and try what tony said the best of luck to you m8 and i still want one at 9.99 it would be a steal when you see the price of some of the ****e on the shelves at the moment

I think \"Charlie\" may have something there.....\"specialist publishers\"

I\'ve seen loads of books (not necessarily on an angling theme), which say \"Published in Association With.......\"

\"Published in Association With Total Sea Fishing Magazine\"........OR......\"Published in Association With Sea Angler Magazine\", sounds good.

Worth an approach?????

Thanks for the advice guys. Keep it coming. I actually phoned up the bloke in charge of THE PEOPLES HISTORY company who have printed all the books about Cullercoats, Tynemouth etc and as soon as I mentioned the fact that the book also involves Eyemouth you would have thought I had included a section on Mongolia. He put me off using his company within seconds. Am going around in circles at the minute so am off to leather a golf ball for a couple of hours. Will return more focused and try again. Must admit Charlies comment about vanity publishers did make me wonder if I was being led up the garden path. Spent the last hour looking for \"specialist publishers\" without getting very far.

Option 1 sounds the best as the book deserves it. What ever option you choose Dave, my request for 2 copies still stands. Good luck.

I\'d have to say that the option of being published\" in association with\" someone like Sea Angler does sound like a good way to do it, if you can get them to stump up some cash or even run the print through their publishers. Looks like TC has helped more than me as usual well done Tony and good luck David. I would be willing to canvas your book at tackle shops as I\'ve already been chatting about it in Frasers where I\'m fairly well known lol.

Get a copy of the Writers Yearbook I think it\'s called, it has loads of info

and try Googling \"Getting Published\" loads of interesting links.

The Writer\'s Handbook, I think it\'s called, Charlie. I have the 2003 one, will have a look in a bit. May be clutching at straws here, but
\"Children of the Sea: The Story of the People of Eyemouth \" was published by Tuckwell Press, whether they have any local connection I don\'t know.
